Stays for adults in the main Chinese speaking destinations
"To learn a language is to have one more window from which to observe the world". Chinese proverb
Mandarin is the most spoken language in the world with 1,200 million speakers; and the number keeps increasing. Each year, about 40 million people study it. The Chinese government has designated Mandarin as the vehicular language of the whole nation (hence the term 普通話 pǔtōnghuà, "common language"). Initially, it was the language of the Chinese communities of the North, of the region of the Yellow River basin (Huang He). It is not derived from the classical literary language (文言 wényán), which was abandoned in 1919, but from a spoken vernacular language (白話 báihuà, "simple language").
